November 3rd Took Betsy to the vet for a check up - she's lost weight and wont have to be on her diet for much longer. The vet we saw wasn't our usual vet. He said the results which had come back for Susie were consistent with FIP, but to discuss it with my vet on Monday. I mentioned that my vet had recommended immune suppressants, and he said he didn't think that was a good idea. Guess I'm gonna have to think about this a lot.
The diarrhea and blood have cleared up and she ate a tin and a
quarter or a/d today. How can she do that if she's got a terminal
illness? She seems better to me. |
November 4th Today she wouldn't touch any a/d - I tried to give her some using a syringe and she bit me. She's obviously very alert and not feeling too weak. My feelings were hurt though! Throughout the day she had 3 quarters of a tin of Felix. It was the only thing she'd touch - she didn't want Hi-Life and she loved it the other day. She's been affectionate, and washing Betsy's ears for her (she is having an ear problem). But eating has been a chore for her - it took all day to get her to eat that amount. Her stomach felt a little lumpy near to where her stitches were - it might have been undigested food though, I'll keep an eye on it. |

November 5th This morning she didn't eat a great deal before I went to work. I hate leaving her - she just seems to vulnerable. I'd stay home with her all the time given the choice - but guess I gotta pay the vet bills somehow! She didn't eat much all day but the had almost a whole tin of a/d in the evening.

November 6th blood test results came back - Vet confirmed that she has FIP, he is going to contact a hospital who have more experience in dealing with cases of this. I should hear back from him today. This with the biopsy and ultrasound have provided the diagnosis - not just the bloodtest alone. He said there are two options - one is a basic immune depressant the other depresses much further - but I think if I'm going to give her a good quality of life then I need to ensure she is happy and healthy - and the basic treatment won't make her sick and will help her eat more. I'd do anything if I could take this horrible thing away from her - however much it cost and whatever sacrifices I had to make. It's so unfair - she's such a little cat, she's already lost so much weight. When I'm stroking and cuddling her I can feel her bones. It's breaking my heart. She hardly
ate today - she had half of a very small tin of Hi-Life and later
in the day had almost half a tin of tuna. Won't touch a/d. |

November 7th Started her on Prednisone and Vitamin pills today. She's having 7.5 mg a day one and a half pills), and a vitamin pill. She is normally pretty easy to get pills down but she bit me twice and scratched me a bit this time. I couldn't get the one a half pills down at the same time, and then once the first attempt failed the pill was moist and hard to get in. It took two of us. She's never bitten me while I am giving her a pill before - I guess she's feeling irritated. |
November 8th She's sitting by the radiator alot so I guess she's feeling the cold. It's been very cold today and with her loss of weight it must get to her. She's definitely eaten more today, even though she's still taking alot of persuasion, but she is taking bites more frequently whereas before she was mainly just licking at her food. |

November 10th She's had an off day today - not wanting to touch the a/d, but is still showing an interest in the food - she does seem hungry - she just isnt eating. |
